Biography

Experience & Specialties

I graduated from Liberty University with a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family therapy.  Early on, I worked as a therapist at a Level I Trauma Center in Georgia, where I addressed trauma, end of life issues, and acute grief. I have worked with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral issues in their homes, developed and presented marriage enrichment seminars to local organizations within the Fredericksburg community, and worked as a therapist serving incarcerated adolescents in the Juvenile Detention Center.  Over the past three years, I worked with troubled teens in the Spotsylvania County School system.  Several years ago, I had the privilege of overseeing the resiliency training program for a large Army agency that focused on preventing post-traumatic stress, substance abuse, and suicidality by providing support for emotional regulation, relationship building, and communication skills.

My general approach to individual therapy centers on Cognitive Behavioral interventions (CBT) as well as Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when appropriate. I offer clinical hypnosis as a highly effective adjunct treatment option for many issues, to include chronic pain relief, anxiety, trauma, and smoking cessation. For couples and families, I have found great success using Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), coupled with Family Systems/Family Structure approaches.

In order to expand support to my clients, I continually seek out additional education and training opportunities to expand my therapeutic “tool bag”.  Most recently, I had the pleasure to add new tools and approaches for improving executive functioning for clients with high-functioning autism.

I never cease to be thrilled and excited as I share the walk on the journey to wellness with my clients.
