Biography

Experience & Specialties

After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Masters in Clinical Social Work, I led parenting classes for Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN), taught Sociology at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, and worked with adolescents and families at the Virginia Home For Boys & Girls.  I moved to North Carolina where I had the honor of working with our Active Duty Military, Veterans, Reserve service members and their families for six years at Ft Bragg, North Carolina and the Fayetteville VA Hospital.

For the past several years, I have been in private practice focusing on the most beneficial treatments for working with teenagers, adults, and military service members.  I specialize in helping those suffering from anxiety, trauma, depression, grief and loss.

In searching for the most effective and fastest way to help others, my focus throughout my career has been on becoming highly trained and skilled in treatments that have a proven track record.  I look for and use treatments that have been researched extensively, have reports of success from colleagues, and achieved goals that I pursue with my own clients.

My Approach to Wellness

I use the most effective treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).  Trained by Dr. Edna Foa, the creator of PE, completing a six-month PE program with Veterans Affairs, and EFT training through the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, I became highly skilled and advanced in PTSD treatment.

With a desire to get the same amazing results as I had seen with treating trauma, I began to search for an equally effective treatment for anxiety, depression, and stress.  I found the mindfulness approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to be this treatment.  ACT is gentle for the client, works quickly, and complements EFT.  I am able to see a person completing therapy with life-long tools to reduce the need for additional treatment.  I continue to strengthen my knowledge through clinical direct practice and coaching, having completed training with the Tony Robbins-Cloe Madanes Strategic Intervention Program and most recently as a Certified Advanced Canfield Trainer.

I am passionate about helping others overcome their wellness challenges and have been privileged to see such wonderful results in my clients.
